Inside the iPhone 5S… Already….

Today is launch date for the new versions of the iPhone and iFixit has already taken apart the flagship iPhone 5S to see what’s behind the screen and inside the new device. Most people don’t care what’s inside their electronic devices as long as they work but iFixit allows you to see the things that you would never see otherwise.

Check out the link to see the screen shots from the disassembling of the Gold iPhone 5S.

Here are the basics about the iPhone 5C (color – White, Blue, Pink, Yellow and Green) is the native iOS7 replacement for the iPhone 5. It’s upgrades boast a Front HD Camera, a plastic cover over metal which doubles as the antenna and carries more LTE compatibility than another phone on the market (excluding the iPhone 5S of course).

Instead of recapping every point here is the overview about what makes the iPhone 5S (metal cased in Silver, Gold and Space Gray) the “Gold Standard” when it comes to crushing it’s competition!

1. A7 64 Bit Processor for Performance and Graphic (up to twice as fast and powerful as iPhone 5)

2. M7 motion co-processor (compass, health/fitness and any movement)

3. Longer Battery, Smarter Camera (iSight) and More Secure including finger print scanner (Touch ID)

Here some of the sleeper features that you will love once you have iOS7

1. FaceTime Audio – Over WiFi you can conduct a Audio Call so that you can talk to other iOS7 user even if you have no mobile reception!

2. Phone, FaceTime and Message Blocking – If you have that random number that keeps calling you, the ex that won’t let go or the family member that ALWAYS wants to FaceTime… you can “Set it & Forget it” (That was a bad infomercial joke)

3. *For Enterprise Users* Per App VPN – You can chose the apps you use for work and connect only those to your company network so that you don’t have to worry about having to police what you receive on your personal email on your phone.

4. iTunes Radio – No need for Pandora so one less app to download.

Check out the Apple Event for the full breakdown…

Pandora’s Sleep Timer Update is a Win!

20130826-002525.jpgPandora’s sleep timer is actually a great way to protect users from unintentional data usage since mobile data is now capped on the bigger carriers such as AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile. Sprint still offers unlimited data but they are slow in expanding its 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) coverage across the country, since it suffered a major misstep when they invested in 4G WIMAX technology before AT&T and Verizon adapted LTE. The sleep timer was introduced to iOS users on August 22, 2013.

Cosby Confused FaceGW Bush ConfusedChan Confused

I have been in the technology industry since 2005 and I have seen these faces many times. Why? This happens when people assume that others automatically know what they know. In the consumer technology world this comes with such terms as: Megapixel, HDMI, 5.1 Home Theater System, RAM, 1080P and some new terms such as 4K and Smart (Phone, TV, Bluray players, Homes).

Here are our K.I.S.S (Keep It Simple Stupid) Definitions for most of these terms so that you don’t get stuck with the o_O (confused faced)…

Terms:

4K = Video Resolution of 3,840 pixels wide by 2160 pixels high  that is 4 times better than 1080P (defined below).  Which provide a more detailed image and will allow you to sit closer to a larger tv without seeing pixelation due to viewing distance.

5.1  = 5 Speakers and 1 subwoofer. This can vary in number of speakers and subwoofer such as 7.1, 9.2 or others but format is “#Speakers.#Subwoofers”.  The 5 speakers are configured as: Front Left, Front Right, Center, Surround Left and Surround Right.

1080P = Video Resolution of 1,920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels high which are Progressively Scanned (all displayed) every time the TV creates a new image.  This resolution totals at over 2 million Pixels in the screen.

HDMIHigh Definition MultiMedia Interface. This is a single cable that carries High definition audio (7.2+) and video (1080P+) by way of a 19 Pins. New HDMI cables support ethernet (internet connection) and control commands along with audio and video.

Pixel = A Color Dot. The higher the number usually means better picture quality, but there are other factors to consider also. Typically this deals with digital cameras from DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) aka Professional Cameras to Camera Phones…

Megapixel = 1 million Pixels

RAM = Random Access Memory. This refers to the amount of non storage memory dedicated to quickly find information that you request on a computer (desktop, laptop, phone and newly TVs).

Smart = Internet Connected or Network Connected.  This can enable Apps (applications) which allow for specialized functionality like streaming content or the ability to access devices through home network or remotely.
